COLLECTABLES

Things we’ve been playing with this month

-

Buddha, dude, we just can’t let go of possessions that easily.

Ah, the happy hours we spent trying to identify Mary or Herman by asking, “Are they wearing a hat?” or “Do they look like an angry hippy?” This Adventure Time Guess Who? game (FPI price £15.99; product code D1990) tasks players with identifying one of 24 characters from the animated show. We’re not keen on the stand-up board design, though. When you shut a door on a character you’ve ruled out, it’s annoyingly easy to accidentally close another two. And you don’t get the pleasure rush of knocking down tiles with a flick of the finger. Bah.

2 If you’re thinking of assembling a crew for a (very) small-scale heist, you could do worse than getting hold of these Solo Pop! vinyl figures (FPI price £12.99 each; product codes H8950, H8951, H8952, H8953, H8954, H8955, H8957). Han, Tobias Beckett, Val, Chewie and L3-37 all look up to the job, while Emilia Clarke’s Qi’ra has slightly different eyebrows to her Game Of Thrones Pop! equivalents. We’d be grateful, though, if someone could explain why Lando looks so damn sleepy. Enfys Nest, Rio Durant and a Range Trooper are also available.

3 These Nightmare On Elm Street and Friday The 13th mugs (£5.99 each; product codes H9330, H9331, H9332, H9333) are just four of a range of 10 from manufacturers GB eye. We particularly like the Crystal Lake Police badge design. All are dishwasher and microwave safe, though our lawyers asked us to state that we can’t rule out the possibility of a mug morphing into Freddy’s leering fizzog mid-cuppa, or Jason smashing one against the worktop and lacerating your throat. We really need to stop using Krueger & Voorhees Associates for legal advice.

4 What better way to show your love for the scruffylooking nerf herder and the walking carpet than by assembling these Lego Brickheadz figures of

Han Solo and Chewbacca (FPI price £9.99 each; product codes H5299, H5300)? Taking about 20 minutes to put together, they include cool details like Han’s blaster and Chewie’s ammunition belt. New Brickheadz of Gamora, Star-Lord, Thanos and Iron Man are also available.

5 Raise a toast to Wakanda with this set of four Black

Panther mini glasses (FPI price £9.99; product code H7022). Each comes with a suggested salutation on the back: “Let the hunt begin!”, “Warrior and king!”, “I shall never tire of the hunt” and “My prey awaits!”, which we strongly recommend you don’t use in company, unless you want the evening to take a turn for the awkward. A frosted tribal design adds that authentic ambience of a made-up African nation.

6 Frankly we feel a little suspicious of this pair of Pop! Vynl figures of Harry Potter and Rubeus Hagrid (FPI price £19.99; product code H6703). Not only is Harry without his signature green eyes, but his scar has disappeared! We suspect the Dark Lord has replaced the real Harry with an imposter. Hagrid’s also looking far too cheery for our liking. Maybe he’s secretly been rummaging around Knockturn Alley again and found another dragon egg. We told you that fire breath and thatched roofs don’t go together, Hagrid.

7 Risk is our business, as Kirk once said, so, er, we’d better tell you about this Transformers edition of Risk (FPI price £34.99; product code B8634E). You can play as either a Decepticon or Autobot force (though one player must be the Autobots). There are some additions to the classic strategy game, with Energon bars scattered across the world to collect, and an Energon Meter bringing the game to a close once it reaches zero.
