FAVOURITE SF/FANTASY FILMS

I’ve always liked the science fiction that feels a bit more lived in, like A Clockwork Orange where it is science fiction and it is the future but it’s got that not-so-distant future element. Still to this day I watch that movie and just go, “Wow, there’s nothing really like this,” you know? I’m not the biggest fan of Blade Runner but I love the look of Blade Runner, that aesthetic is unreal. I love Ridley Scott’s Alien too, again it just feels very lived in. It’s almost like a Cassavetes movie on a spaceship.

FAVOURITE SF/FANTASY TV

Outside of The Twilight Zone, I did enjoy the reboot of Battlestar Galactica. When I was shooting Paul we were all passing around those DVDs but stuff like the original Star Trek – I didn’t actually watch that until about five years ago. I work on South Park sometimes and that’s trey Parker’s favourite thing, he was like “Oh my god, you’ve never seen them? you’ve got to watch them!” they’re pretty good but I think I would have liked them more if I’d grown up with them.

FAVOURITE SF/FANTASY COMICS

I was kind of more into the stuff from the people they poached from 2000 AD and brought over to the States! I love the usual suspects of Alan Moore, grant Morrison and Neil gaiman but I also like Mike Mignola. Lately, I really like Jeff Lemire who I think is great, he’s a Canadian guy who’s done great stuff, and some of Brian K Vaughan’s stuff is really great. He wrote a book called Paper Girls that I really liked. those tend to be the people I gravitate to.

Barry is now airing on Sky Atlantic.
