BACK TO THE HILLS
the remakes...
During the early-to-late noughties remakes of hit horror properties were all the rage so no one was surprised when Wes Craven opted to produce a remake of The Hills Have
Eyes in 2006, directed by French filmmaker Alexandra Aja (of High Tension and Piranha
3D fame). Unfortunately, the end result opts for all-out excess – with bombastic makeup jobs for the mutants and over-the-top gore – which largely dilutes the scare-factor. Nevertheless, a lame-duck sequel followed in 2007 which was universally panned and, consequently, might well have sunk any further franchise aspirations for good.
