Of Thrones-related projects in developmen­t though it’s worth pointing out that there’s no guarantee that any of them will make it to a series. Indeed, there were at one point five successor shows being considered, but one of these ideas has since been shelved. so what do we know about the survivors?

Let’s start with the project that’s closest to becoming a reality. Kingsman screenwrit­er Jane Goldman is set to collaborat­e with Martin on a story that HBO promise will “chronicle the world’s descent from the Golden age of Heroes into its darkest hour”. the age of Heroes is a crucial moment in

Thrones lore – a 4,000 year-long period that begins with the pact between the First Men and the Children of the Forest and ends some 6000 years before Game Of Thrones. It’s the time of Bran the Builder – the first King in the north and the man responsibl­e for raising the wall. HBO had also confirmed that the show will explore “the true origin of the white walkers”, which suggests that winter may well be coming... again. a pilot episode has been ordered for the show, though whether it will go any further than that remains to be seen.

as yet we know nothing of the other three potential successor shows, other than their writers: Thrones veteran Bryan Cogman, Max Borenstein (Kong: skull Island) and David Helgeland (Legend) have all been working with Martin to flesh out their projects. we also know what the shows won’t be.
