THE CHARMED ONES GET A MODERN REMIX
Tit’s been 12 years since the halliwell sisters worked their contemporary magic on san Francisco in the Constance M burgecreated series Charmed. but as with most genre shows, unto a new generation a reboot shall come. and the time for a new Charmed comes this October. helmed by showrunner Jennie snyder urman, the new series will feature three latina sisters navigating our current reality who happen to discover their “Power of three”.
While the existing Charmed fandom has pushed back online about the need for a reboot, snyder urman tells sFX, “i was really mindful of not messing with anything from the original as it was eight years of stories. the way i could respect it most was to not touch what they had. and we knew where the women ended up. We saw Piper’s boys later in their lives and they had a real ending to the original.”
With that in mind, she says new stories with a more diverse cast of leads felt like fresh ground. “i’m coming off Jane the
Virgin, which has been a watershed moment in terms of how i understand the importance of representation on screen. We had seen four white witches [in the original] and frankly, we didn’t want to repeat that. We wanted this to be new heroes and a new family.” and yet, she teases, “the original Charmed Ones, and the mythology of their matriarch, will be part of the fabric of the story we’ll be telling.”
