THE FLASH

-

“Dad, i’ve broken the space-time continuum...”

the Flash had a new arrival at the end of season four, in the form of barry and iris’s daughter, nora. unlike most kids, though, this one arrives fully grown and hails from the future. she’s also set to shake things up this year. “obviously nora came back from the future and dropped this massive bomb on them that a) she’s their daughter from the future and b) that she screwed up,” says showrunner todd helbing. “in episode one, you learn a lot about the mistake that she made. it’s funny, because barry created Flashpoint, and i don’t know if you’ll ever top that, but what she tells him is on that level. barry has certainly messed up when he travels in time, so it’s fun to have him on the other side, trying to help nora through this.” While nora is cold around her mum – “there’s a clear indication that she has some sort of issue with her mother that she does not have with her father,” says star candice patton (iris) – she’s on much better terms with her dad, barry. “this year we’re exploring the idea of legacy,” explains helbing, “For barry it’s about what’s more important: being a great speedster, or being a great father?” We’ll also see a return of the timey-wimey storytelling of earlier years. “it’s a nightmare!” helbing laughs. “When i got hired, i was super stoked about time travel. after doing it for three years, i’m like, ‘We need to take a break.’ so we did last year. then i was really excited to do it again this year, until we started breaking the first episode. i’m like, ‘oh my god, all these headaches again!’”
