THE MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE

Back at last – and more chillingly timely than ever

THere Hasn’t been a new episode of The Man in

The high Castle for more than a year and a half, but executive producer isa dick Hackett (daughter of philip K dick) says the show will be more relevant than ever when it returns for its third season this autumn. “it feels like we are living in one of his novels, more so every day,” she says of today’s global political landscape. “i think he would be apoplectic. high Castle is an anti-fascist tale and he had such deep fears and anxieties about fascism.”

but the biggest news is that the spine of the upcoming season comes from a surprising source. “my dad started a sequel to high Castle but he couldn’t get back into that nazi [head]space,” Hackett reveals. “but he did have a big idea we were able to utilise for season three.”

fellow executive producer daniel percival says the new season will “drill back down into the character’s lives and what motivated people individually, asking what it’s like to live in this world. so, at the end of season two, we separated Juliana (alexa davalos), Joe (Luke Kleintank) and frank (rupert evans). the arc of season three brings all their fates back together in surprising and unpredictable ways. you also begin to understand how Juliana functions as the centre of all these lives across many, many universes. that’s a weird and ambiguous thing to say but her connection to all these characters is infinite, and we get a glimpse into why she’s a unique individual. and it’s really been delightful to see season three get back into character rather than the big cerebral mission idea.”
