JAMES CAWTHORN: THE MAN AND HIS ART

Fans of Michael Moorcock should know the name of the late James Cawthorn: the two collaborated on projects like the script for 1975’sThe Land That Time Forgot.

He’s probably best known for his illustrations in British SF periodical New Worlds, particularly those of Moorcock’s sword and sorcery hero Elric.

Written by his sister, this book is “part biography and part tribute”.

About half of the book comprises a gallery of art, including many rough sketches and extracts from an unfinished graphic novel of A Princess Of Mars.

Also includes letters, reviews and stories by Cawthorn, as well as interviews and obituaries.

The inclusion of childhood doodles, family photos and birthday cards made for friends lends it a real sense of intimacy.
