As ever, there are stacks of releases we couldn’t fit in. Brandon Sanderson has a new novella starring Stephen Leeds, the intelligence agent who can become an expert on any subject in hours. LEGION: LIES OF THE BEHOLDER (20 September, Gollancz) centres on a sinister high-tech firm specialising in advanced methods of human incarceration; there’s also an omnibus containing this story and previous novellas Legion and Legion: Skin Deep. Peter V Brett has a new novella too. Set in the world of the Demon Cycle series, BARREN (20 September, Harper Voyager) centres on Selia, a town elder who must contend with not only demon attacks, but small-town politics and prejudice regarding her sexuality. Off on your hols soon and looking for something to give you the heebie-jeebies on the plane? Look no further than FLIGHT OR FRIGHT (out now, Hodder & Stoughton). This 16-tale anthology brings together aviationthemed tales like Richard Matheson’s “Nightmare At 20,000 Feet”, but also includes two new stories by Stephen King and Joe Hill. Apologies for using the C word in September, but we suspect that HOW TO SLAY THE BUFFY WAY (out now, Ebury Press) will end up in a lot of stockings come Christmas. Subtitled Badass Buffy Attitude And Killer Life Advice, it’s basically a book of quotes. Finally, one that slipped past us last month is THE ART AND MAKING OF PREACHER (out now, Titan Books), a fullcolour guide to both seasons of the TV series.
