Don’t Look Now star Donald Sutherland and co-writer Allan Scott converged again for this “based on a true story” tale. Set in 1927 Pennsylvania, it centres on a boy who, influenced by a preacher, believes a hermit has evil powers. Expending as much time on young Billy’s romance with a free-spirited girl, it feels lacking in focus and – barring a few moments where we see the hermit as they do – frustratingly low-key.
