“It’s more exciting than nerve-wracking,” smiles Daniel Lawrence Taylor on the success of his sci-fi ITV sitcom Timewasters. Back in 2017, Taylor’s on-screen counterpart Nick led mates Lauren (Adelayo Adedayo), Horace (Samson Kayo) and Jason (Kadiff Kirwan) on a trip through time to the jazz-loving ’20s and in doing so, created the most watched new comedy among young viewers. Early next year they’ll be at it again, returning to their high-rise elevator-turned-time machine for another trip – only this time, the stakes are higher. “We’re in the 1950s,” Taylor tells SFX from series two’s Liverpool set. “The cold war is happening and if there’s radiation coming off the back of their time machine, it’s going to raise a few eyebrows...” Sounds cryptic so far – but based on what we’ve seen, that’s the least of the gang’s worries. “We kind of inadvertently start the race riots,” adds Taylor with a smile.
