The Boys
Season 1 | US/UK Amazon Prime Video, TBC
Back in 2006, Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comic book series
The Boys posited a world where superheroes existed, and the majority of them were dicks. Now a danger to society, the CIA creates a group to help “manage” them. Timely, right? Amazon is now turning the book into a series showrun by Supernatural creator Eric Kripke, with an ensemble cast including the likes of Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Jennifer Esposito and Karen Fukuhara. “There’s challenges in any adaptation, but I’ve never had so much fun working on a show,” Kripke tells
SFX of his work on The Boys. “The superhero myth is so big and so sprawling, and about so many things, it’s like an endless toy box. Everything you want to poke fun at works when you put a superhero in it, in front, instead of say Lance Armstong, Donald Trump, Brad Pitt, etc… And the world, in a bad way, has caught up to the universe of this show, to the point where in a very strange way, this insane superhero show, I can almost promise, will be the most topical show on television.”
