prodigy ETA December 2018 | Publisher Image/Netflix
Mark Millar’s latest collaboration with Netflix, Prodigy follows Edison Crane – a polymath who has mastered everything from the occult to big business, and uses his skills to solve problems that others can’t. Millar has described Crane as “by far the best character I’ve created” and with art from his Huck collaborator, Rafael Albuquerque, it will certainly look great. Expect a Netflix show to follow sometime soon…
die ETA December 2018 | Publisher Image Comics
The Wicked + Divine and Darth Vader’s Kieron Gillen teams up with Stephanie Hans for a dark fantasy adventure that pits a bunch of 40-somethings against a terrifying horror that they encountered as teenage role-players. Sounds a bit Stephen King’s IT, but Gillen has tagged it with the rather more pithy “Goth Jumanji”.
goddess mode ETA December 2018 | Publisher DC Vertigo
Cassandra Price is a young woman living in a future where humanity is watched over by an omniscient AI. But when she discovers a hidden digital world, she encounters a group of super-powered women fighting for survival. A new series by game developer and Hugo finalist Zoe Quinn and Spider-Gwen co-creator Robbi Rodriguez.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer ETA January 2019 | Publisher BOOM! Studios
Buffy is heading back to high school. Written by Jordie Bellaire and drawn by Dan Mora, the new series is a reboot that moves the Slayer saga into the present day, with some intriguing continuity shifts – Drusilla is said to appear as early as issue two. That’s bound to be controversial, but the new comic has an exciting creative team and Joss Whedon’s blessing.
Guardians of the galaxy ETA January 2019 | Publisher Marvel Comics
The Guardians are getting a new line-up and a new issue one. Guardians Of The Galaxy #1 by Donny Cates and Geoff Shaw begins a new story arc, titled “When the Last Guardian Falls” – with the heavy implication that not everyone is going to make it out of the latest crisis alive...
OLIVER ETA January 2019 | Publisher Image Comics.
Dickens’ novel gets an unlikely post-apocalyptic reboot from Rogue One screenwriter Gary Whitta and Transmetropolitan’s Darick Robertson. Transferred to a desolate future setting, the new Oliver is more superhero than street urchin. Whitta says the book has been some 15 years in the making and this looks like a bold fusion of kinetic action with a timeless story.
Fight club 3 ETA January 2019 | Publisher Dark Horse Comics
Chuck Palahniuk’s effortlessly controversial series returns for a second sequel. Fight Club 2 moved the drama firmly into the realm of science fiction, with Project: Mayhem now a fully-fledged terrorist group, and Tyler Durden now a father. Balthazar (Ed Norton’s unnamed character in the movie) must ally himself with his twisted alter-ego to face off an even bigger threat.
naomi ETA January 2019 | Publisher Wonder Comics
Naomi is one of three new titles (with
Young Justice and Dial H for HERO) from Brian Michael Bendis’s new Wonder Comics imprint. Its titular protagonist is, in Bendis’s words, “the only brown-skinned girl in a very white town” who begins to investigate superheroes and finds herself pulled into the wider DC universe. Bendis and David Walker are on script duties and Jamal Campbell draws.
the man Without Fear ETA January 2019 | Publisher Marvel Comics
What’s Hell’s Kitchen without Matt Murdock? Writer Jed MacKay and artist Danilo Beyruth’s new weekly series will delve into that very scenario. With DD out of commission following the ominously titled “The Death Of Daredevil”, the focus is switching to Foggy, the Defenders, Kingpin and a mysterious new character known as Guardian Devil.
the Forgotten Queen ETA February 2019 | Publisher Valiant Comics
Rising star Tini Howard and artist Amilcar Pinna are giving Valiant’s War-Monger her own series. Looking back to the character’s origins in the Mongol Empire and to her current status as one of the major villains in Valiant’s universe, the series also marks the start of Valiant’s 30th anniversary celebrations for 2019.
