JASON MOMOA

Aquaman in, er, Aquaman

-

What’s your working relationship with James Wan like?

I always liked to annoy him! It’s funny to get under his skin a little bit, and make him shake his head. Then I know when to back off. He definitely can push me to my limits, and get great things out of me. We had this one great take, where I’m trying not to cry; my voice is cracking up. He got me to this spot. We talked about it, then he left me alone. I was like, “Alright, I’m just going to keep doing it, keep doing it,” and he used it. He set the playing field, then when those beautiful moments happen, he honours it, and lets the movie take its shape.

At this stage, how comfortable are you walking around with your shirt off on set?

At home, I’ll always be around people with shirts on. I’m like, “Why?” Hawaiians didn’t make clothes, so I feel like it’s in my DNA! Even when I’m big and fat, I’m going to have my shirt off. It just feels good. I’m going to get massive. All my family is huge – I’m the runt of the family! I told my wife: “After the superhero shit, I’m going to go Brando. You better take advantage of me now. These are the good times. I’m in my prime, girl!” Matt Maytum
