VIDEOGAME Can’t wait for Into The Spider-verse 2? This Miles-focused sequel to Playstation’s take on Spider-man has you covered. It’s set a year after the previous game; Peter Parker has been training Miles Morales in superheroics, and deems him capable of looking after New York for a few weeks while he takes off with MJ.

What follows is a fantastic coming of age tale, as Miles takes on the responsibility of being New York’s protector and discovers how to bust out of Pete’s shadow by doing the Spider-man thing his own way. It’s a personal story where the safety of the city is on the line, and the supporting cast is strong.

It has a shorter playing time at a budget price, but there’s a much more filmic quality to the focus of the story: its breezy, witty script could easily have formed the basis for a great MCU movie. Swinging around New York between missions is a joy, as you easily chain together full swings with web zips, launches and wall runs. The animation nods to Into The

Spider-verse, with the lesspractised Miles’s arms and legs helicoptering as he flips and tries to keep balance. And the city itself looks fantastic on PS5. Turn on Fidelity mode and you’ll spot ray-traced reflections in its windowed skyscrapers, or go for Performance mode to experience traversal at 60fps, which feels ridiculously smooth.

The Peter-like web-based combat is supplemented by a host of Venom powers – a sort of electric shock (which you can feel charging in your hands on PS5’S Dualsense controller). Miles can pepper in these strikes with ease for stronger punches, dash attacks, or to launch groups of enemies into the air. Miles can also camouflage for a limited time, so he can tactically regroup in a fight, or reset stealth sections back to sneaky takedowns from the shadows. A fantastic celebration of Miles Morales, with a gripping story that makes it a must-play for any Spidey fans. Oscar Taylor-kent

Miles has many unlockable suits, including a jaw-dropping Spider-verse one that mimics its lower-frame animation style.
