GRACE AND WALTER UNDER FIRE

Leslie Bibb and Ben Daniels are super, thanks for asking

-

Is the transformation into the older version of your characters an enjoyable or tedious process? Daniels:

The old Walter is a two-hour make-up. It’s not that much fun any more. It was kind of fun for about five minutes. That, in combination with the super-suits… I don’t know if anyone else has talked about the super-suits and how awful they are. I mean, they look amazing. I love my Brainwave suit, but it’s really vile to wear.

I had it on for about five hours yesterday doing a sequence where I’m stuck inside someone’s brain. It was torture. It was so hot! The sweat through the muscle suit… they don’t breathe at all. It’s great weight loss.

How much does the wardrobe inform your performance? Bibb:

Comic books are not my thing. My beloved loves comic books. We have them all over our apartment. When I got this job, Netflix had sent me the graphic novels. Everyone who walked into the apartment saw them and were like, “What’s happening?” I was like, “I’m doing this job next.” “Who are you in it?” “Lady Liberty.” Gasping sound. Then

I got in my supersuit and I feel like a badass. It informs the way you hold yourself. Something really clicks for me. You feel like you want to do something good for the world. I know that sounds corny, but it is very powerful.

Walter and Grace Sheldon’s journey begins with a trip to a mysterious island. How do things snowball from there?

Daniels: We all go through such individual things by the time we get to that island. And the island is trying to kill us. It’s a big test for us to get to the aliens at the end, which aren’t really aliens. I’m spoiling it all!

Bibb: It brings everyone to their knees. Do you pass the test? Are you worthy, because you are about to be given something so extraordinary? We’re 120 years old now. What’s cool about the show is that you have us in the ’20s, the ’30s and the present day. Can you imagine having a job where you were on call 24/7? Your life would be sacrificed, your marriages, your children, your human relationships, because your country always wins.

Daniels: And how that changes over that amount of time. And we’ve been doing it at this point for 100 years.

Bibb: Being the one woman in this group of six, Grace is sort of the voice of reason. She is the only one who can really handle Sheldon. She calls him on his shit. She’s not afraid of him. If they went toe-to-toe, she could possibly beat him. She’s equally as strong as him. She’s pretty badass, which I love. She can handle Walter, and they have their relationship. But she doesn’t have girlfriends and she’s always with her kids. None of them have personal lives.
