"I'm constantly amazed by the interest"

Daniel Craig is JAMES BOND

-

This is your final film. What story opportunities does that give you? We have an ending, which is great. You work back from that. So we knew what we were kind of aiming for. And that was always a help. You know, we were really up against it. When Cary came on board, there was a lot to do, but he’s a writer. The boys had been writing the script before that, so we had plot points that we could tie things to. We kind of knew about set-pieces, but we weren’t 100% about where we wanted to be location-wise. But it was really about aiming big. I mean, without giving anything away, it’s about love and family.

Can you ever get used to the sheer level of interest in Bond?

I don’t think so, and I don’t think one should! Because it’s not real. I’m much more amused by it than I ever used to be… I’m much more like, “Yeah, it’s fun, it’s funny.”

I’m constantly amazed by the interest that this movie generates. Every time, I forget. But I get it. That’s one of the reasons that they’ve lasted for so long. By the time the movie comes out, there are so many questions being asked. What’s the song? What’s the suit? What’s the car? Who’s Bond? That’s what they do. And it’s brilliant.

Do the Bond movies move with the times?

I think they have to. They reflect the times, not because we’re trying to be a clever dick by referencing everything. You know, how is he relevant? I’d say, “Yes, he is relevant, because he’s an emotional human being. Watching someone struggle and go through things is interesting.” So then he’s worth watching.
