Captain’s Log

-

The go-to, perhaps, when questioning where all the years have gone might be to just say, “Wibbly wobbly timeywimey”. Thankfully that’s apt for readers of SFX, many of you who have been with us for 350 glorious issues now. How has that happened? Well, blood, sweat, tears and a heck of a lot of Pritt Stick at this end, probably.

I remember picking up the first issue on my way to a Star Trek local group in Edinburgh. Ah, the joy of watching the Star Trek: Voyager pilot in black and white for some weird ’90s conversion reason. Thank goodness for SFX – it’s been there throughout my life and I hope it continues to celebrate many more milestones. Spread the word, tell your friends – we’re still here! And remember you can subscribe for practically pennies…

Talking of lifelong loves, my favourite film of all time is Batman Returns – so I’m always a little hesitant when it comes to new adventures for the Dark Knight. Not that I don’t enjoy them – Batman is the first thing I remember being obsessed with as a kid, particularly the “naughty Joker” as I called him. But how can something beat your very favourite movie that you’ve been fiercely loyal to for 30 years? I guess we’ll find out soon enough as The Batman hits screens… It’s the first one I’ve been genuinely excited for; it feels like something new in the mythos, so it’s another strange full-circle moment to bring it to the cover of this month’s issue. Let us know what you think of the movie!

“Wow. The Batman. Or is it just Batman? Your choice, of course.”
