Work­shops cover spray ap­pli­ca­tion

River­ine Plains is host­ing two Grains Re­search and De­vel­op­ment Cor­po­ra­tion spray ap­pli­ca­tion work­shops on Septem­ber 13 and 14 in Dookie and Ruther­glen re­spec­tively.

The half-day work­shops will be con­ducted by Bill Gor­don, from Bill Gor­don Con­sult­ing, and are de­signed to as­sist farm­ers get the most from their spray equip­ment.

Mr Gor­don is a con­sul­tant who has de­liv­ered a num­ber of GRDC-funded projects re­lated to ap­pli­ca­tion tech­nol­ogy and drift man­age­ment to the Aus­tralian agri­cul­tural in­dus­try.

Through a com­bi­na­tion of prac­ti­cal demon­stra­tion and ‘sit-down’ train­ing, Mr Gor­don will pro­vide up-to-date in­for­ma­tion on noz­zle se­lec­tion, droplet be­hav­iour, drift re­duc­tion, weather for spray­ing and in­ver­sion risk.

He will also dis­cuss the need for dif­fer­ent set-ups de­pend­ing on the type of spray job at hand, re­cent changes to reg­u­la­tion and her­bi­cide re­sis­tance. The two work­shops will be held at: ■ Dookie — on Thurs­day, Septem­ber 13 from 1 pm to 4 pm at the Univer­sity of Mel­bourne’s Dookie Cam­pus, 940 Dook­ieNalinga Rd, Dookie; and

■ Ruther­glen — on Fri­day, Septem­ber 14 from 9 am to noon at Agri­cul­ture Vic­to­ria, 124 Chiltern Valley Rd, Ruther­glen.
