DAIRY CODE DE­BATE CON­TIN­UES:

The dairy in­dus­try is con­tin­u­ing to dis­cuss a pos­si­ble manda­tory code of con­duct as Fed­eral Agri­cul­ture Min­is­ter David Lit­tleproud puts pres­sure on to come to a con­sen­sus. Pro­posed as a way to cor­rect a power im­bal­ance be­tween pro­ces­sors and dairy farm­ers, con­cerns have been ex­pressed re­gard­ing the cost, time and ef­fec­tive­ness of the pro­posed manda­tory code.

MILK PRICE HIKE GAINS SUP­PORT:

Sup­port for a 10¢/litre levy on milk has re­ceived the thumbs up from Fed­eral Agri­cul­ture Min­is­ter David Lit­tleproud, who says he is happy to help fa­cil­i­tate it. Pro­posed as a way to help dairy farm­ers through the drought, the levy would re­quire Coles, Wool­worths and fed­eral cabi­net to get on board.

TOUGH TIMES FOR DAIRY:

Dairy farm­ers con­tinue to do it tough as dry con­di­tions and ris­ing feed prices have seen av­er­age profit across Vic­to­ria fall to the fifth low­est level in 12 years, Agri­cul­ture Vic­to­ria and Dairy Aus­tralia’s 2018 Dairy Farm Mon­i­tor Re­port has con­firmed.

SO­LAR PROGRESS:

Any­one driv­ing on Wunghnu Rd next month will see so­lar pan­els start­ing to grow in num­ber at the site of the Nu­murkah So­lar Farm at Dru­ma­nure. Neoen Aus­tralia, the com­pany be­hind the project, is set to com­plete works at the site in May 2019.

YOUNG FARM­ERS JOIN COUN­CIL:

Rochester’s Dustin Kemp and Strath­bo­gie’s Alis­tair Tame have been ap­pointed as new faces on the Young Farmer Ad­vi­sory Coun­cil. They will join re­turn­ing mem­bers Sarah Thompson and Tom McGrath, Pete Burgess from the Young Agribusi­ness Pro­fes­sion­als and Jess Pil­grim from the Vic­to­rian Young Farm­ers Net­work, as well as two other new mem­bers.
