LIT­TLEPROUD VIS­ITS:

Fed­eral Agri­cul­ture and Water Min­is­ter David Lit­tleproud has been hear­ing con­cerns about the Mur­ray-Dar­ling Basin Plan, vis­it­ing farm­ers and com­mu­nity groups in Shep­par­ton and De­niliquin last week. The 450 Gl of ‘up-water’ was a key fo­cus of his visit, with peo­ple plead­ing for him to stop more water be­ing taken from the re­gion.

DAIRY FARM­ERS FACE TOUGH TIMES:

High feed and water prices and tough weather con­di­tions have taken their toll, with this sea­son’s milk pro­duc­tion ex­pected to fall by eight bil­lion litres. Dairy Aus­tralia’s Dairy Sit­u­a­tion and Outlook re­port for Oc­to­ber points to­wards a five to seven per cent milk pro­duc­tion short­fall on last year’s pro­duc­tion lev­els.

ELEC­TION DE­BATE:

The VFF is host­ing a Vic­to­rian elec­tion de­bate with the can­di­dates for the seat of Shep­par­ton on Wed­nes­day, Novem­ber 7 from 6.30 pm. While the VFF’s elec­tion wish list will be on the agenda, can­di­dates are keen to dis­cuss a number of top­ics, with water on the top of the list. MUR­RAY DAIRY CHANGES: Karen Moroney, from the Mitta Val­ley, will take on the job of Mur­ray Dairy chair, step­ping up from her role as deputy chair which she has held for the past three years. Re­plac­ing her as deputy chair is Tony Mc­Carthy, of Dhur­ringile, and An­drew Tyler, of Ton­gala.

COOM­BOONA DAIRIES SOLD:

A com­pany as­so­ci­ated with Freedom Foods has pur­chased the large Coom­boona Dairies op­er­a­tion near Un­dera. Coom­boona Dairies, part-owned by businessman Gerry Har­vey, was placed in vol­un­tary re­ceiver­ship ear­lier this year.
