Grants help men­tal well­be­ing

A num­ber of or­gan­i­sa­tions and groups are mak­ing pos­i­tive men­tal health and well­be­ing a pri­or­ity, with the Look Over the Farm Gate ini­tia­tive.

Or­gan­ised by the VFF, in con­junc­tion with Agri­cul­ture Vic­to­ria, Royal Fly­ing Doc­tor Ser­vice, Na­tional Cen­tre for Farmer Health, Coun­try Fire Au­thor­ity and Coun­try Women’s As­so­ci­a­tion, the pro­gram is de­signed to de­liver grants of up to $1500 for com­mu­nity events and men­tal health train­ing.

Bring­ing to­gether neigh­bours and the com­mu­nity, the Look Over the Farm Gate grants can fund once-off events or a series of events.

Some ideas in­clude a free com­mu­nity bar­be­cue, reg­u­lar fit­ness meet-ups, com­mu­nity tree plant­ing, or a fam­ily movie night — what­ever your com­mu­nity needs to get to­gether and take a break.

Look Over the Farm Gate is also a call to ac­tion for ru­ral peo­ple to look out for one an­other, pro­mote so­cial in­clu­sion, cre­ate aware­ness about men­tal health, and re­duce the im­pact it has on ru­ral com­mu­ni­ties.

The 2018-19 Drought Sup­port Grants are open now for events held be­tween De­cem­ber 2018 and March 2019.
