Guitarist Matthew Fagan will perform the lute music of the great Lutheran baroque composer Johann Sebastian Bach in Shepparton next month.

The Concerts in the Chapel performance will have Fagan perform on a custom-made 10-string Spanish classical guitar, modelled on the baroque lute which Bach himself composed for.

‘‘This instrument has four extra base strings which gives a rich sonority perfect for performing the music of Bach,’’ event organiser Matt Anker said.

The pieces will feature selections from the famous violin sonatas Bach arranged for lute, a selection of Bach’s cello suites arranged by Fagan for 10-string guitar and special arrangements of Bach Chorales, including Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring.

‘‘Come and celebrate the beauty of Bach’s spirituality and virtuosity in this concert with 10-string guitar,’’ Mr Anker said. ● The concert will be on Saturday, December 1 from 7 pm. Pre-booked tickets cost $25 for adults, $20 for concession, $45 for families and $10 for children under 16 years. Tickets bought at the door cost an extra $5.
