Back-to-back reigning Numurkah best and fairest Nick Fothergill has moved to the Goulburn Valley League, the latest in a series of huge recruits for Tatura.

The gun midfielder joins Braydon Sutton and Jordan O’Dwyer at the kennel from the Blues, adding to a growing buzz around the club.

Paired with Tim Garlick and James Sullivan, the Numurkah trio shows the Bulldogs are recruiting with an eye towards a 2019 premiership tilt, adding to the side which finished fifth this season.

Coach Jamason Daniels thrilled with the transfers.

‘‘Firstly we were able to re-sign everyone, we got that done pretty early with the exception of Tommy Miller, who’s having a bit of a sea change,’’ he said.

‘‘That really makes recruiting a lot easier, because the first question guys ask is who is sticking around and who is leaving, that’s been really pleasing.

‘‘We’ve been able to tell them who we’ve got on board and sell them our direction as a club.’’

The inclusion of Fothergill seems the cherry on top of the Bulldogs’ delicious recruiting cake, the former Blue having kicked 43 goals from his midfield role this Murray Football League season. was

‘‘It’s huge to have Foz on board, he’s a great fella and brings a lot to our club,’’ Daniels said.

‘‘You can’t have too much midfield depth but he’s a goalkicker as well.

‘‘We found we had two pretty good key posts in Matty Ryan and (Brandyn) Grenfell, but when the ball hit the ground we didn’t have guys there, we definitely need a few who can push forward.’’

Daniels was similarly pleased to have Sutton and O’Dwyer on board, believing both addressed key team needs.

‘‘(Sutton) is probably one who’s been a bit underrated in the Murray league, we’ve done our research and he’s a big bloke at 6’4’’, but he can run 100 m in about 12 seconds,’’ he said.

‘‘He plays on the best forward each week, he played on (Cameron) Cloke in a final and kept him quiet and will really help out Brad Ryan down there.

‘‘I think there were a few GV clubs after (O’Dwyer) and we were lucky enough to get him. He’ll be really important for our run off half-back after losing Tom Miller; his burst of speed is great and he’ll take the game on, which I love.’’

But the enthusiastic Daniels was quick to point out recruiting looked good on paper, but meant nothing until the side was on the park.
