Creative community trees
CHRISTMAS FEST A TIME FOR PEOPLE TO COME TOGETHER IN THE SPIRIT OF THE SEASON AND SHARE THE JOY
The importance of community at Christmas time is the message being spread ahead of Mooroopna Anglican Church’s Christmas Fest.
Christmas Fest on Saturday is a display of creative Christmas trees decorated by community groups.
Stores, schools, Scout groups, Lions and Probus clubs have all decorated trees, which will be displayed at the free event for people to enjoy.
Event organiser Ingrid Mauger said Christmas trees were a way for people to get creative.
‘‘The trees are a way for the clubs to let the community know who they are, where they are, who to contact and what they stand for,’’ she said.
‘‘That was the idea behind the community groups putting their trees in because Mooroopna is a little community and anything that builds community is a good thing.’’
Ms Mauger said they had received a number of quirky designs, with people using succulents, jewellery, Christmas ornaments and household items to put trees together.
Christmas Fest also has craft activities for children and adults, face painting, nativity displays and a cafe playing live Christmas music.
Ms Mauger encouraged the community to share in the joy of Christmas and come along and see the interesting trees.
‘‘The message is that Jesus was born at Christmas time and that’s the joy we want to share,’’ she said. ● Mooroopna Anglican Church’s Christmas Fest is on Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm at The Canteen, 17 Young St, Mooroopna. Creative: Club tree: Different:
