ESCAPING THE HEAT

WEATHER IS A SHOCK TO THE SYSTEM AS MERCURY CLIMBS TO NEAR 40°C HEAT

Shepparton News - - FRONT PAGE - By Laura Briggs

News journalist Laura Briggs and photographer Megan Fisher braved the hot streets of Shepparton yesterday afternoon to see what locals were up to in the first blast of summer.

They found more people were indoors than out, but there were still a few keen souls out and about in the near 40°C heat.

Some were still willing to take the dog out for a walk or take a bike ride, while others kept cool with a splash at Aquamoves or indulged in afternoon ice-creams.

Many described the weather as a shock to the system and not exactly their ideal temperatures, but everyone agreed the summer ahead would provide plenty of swimming opportunities.

Family time: Jordan and Patricia Spencer embrace the summer with a visit to Victoria Park lake.

Cooling off: Dani with children Saylor, 2, and Payton Gledhill, 5, making use of Aquamoves’ outdoor pool area.

Swim time: Brothers Keyhan, 10, and Zade Erdogdu, 7, embrace the heat at the pool.

Water fun: Octavia Welsh, 3, is all smiles at the splash park.

New adventure: Flynn Cawood, who moved to Shepparton this week, was braving the heat on the ramps.
