Ju­lian As­sange can leave

QUITO: Ecuador pres­i­dent Lenin Moreno said Bri­tain had pro­vided suf­fi­cient guar­an­tees for Ju­lian As­sange to leave the Ecuador em­bassy in Lon­don, where the Wik­iLeaks founder has been liv­ing un­der asy­lum since 2012.

Mr Moreno said his gov­ern­ment has re­ceived writ­ten as­sur­ances from the United King­dom gov­ern­ment not to ex­tra­dite the Aus­tralian ac­tivist to any coun­try where he would face the death penalty.

Mr As­sange’s le­gal team was con­sid­er­ing its next steps.
