To be the best, Kyabram has to beat the best

Shepparton News - - BOWLS - By Tyler Maher

Top of the table clashes do not always come around often.

But in today’s Goulburn Valley Bowls Division’s premier competition, ladder leader Kyabram and second-placed Shepparton Golf play in a fixture that promises to be a blockbuster.

Both are undefeated after six rounds, but each one has a specific point to prove at Shepparton Golf’s facility in the round seven clash.

The Power flew the lids at the start of this campaign, but backto-back wobbles on the green — dropping four points to Stanhope and a draw with Shepparton Park — will have put a bee in the bonnet of their squad.

David Cartwright and his charges will be keen to put their best bowls forward today in what could be a grand final preview.

The Golfers have again quietly gone about their business, racking up win after win without much fuss, and had an emphatic 46-shot triumph against East Shepparton last week, despite dropping a rink.

Brad Orr’s troops know Kyabram has improved this season, but will want to stamp their own authority on today’s match and remind the competition which team has won the past three Allan Matheson Shields.

Hill Top and Stanhope play each other today in a crucial contest, with the eventual victor certainly able to call themselves a finals chance.

The Hillbillies had a clean sweep triumph against Nagambie last round, while Stanhope defeated Seymour on the road.

Along with Shepparton Park and Seymour taking each other on, a fixture between the Lakers and East rounds out today’s action.

Orr on the line: Brad Orr’s dominant Shepparton Golf side takes on ladder leader Kyabram today.
