Dark pop release from young artist
If there was such a thing as a quadruple threat, Robert Baxter is the deÅnition of one.
The Shepparton man has been heavily involved in the dancing and acting scene and can now add musician and model to his belt. Recently releasing his new single Tell Me, Robert said, while he was known for teaching dance and choreographing local productions, he also loved creating music.
He explained how he created the track which is his Årst release. “I was just in my room,” he said. The 18-year-old Årst wrote the music on piano then used a digital work station on his laptop to add beats and textures.
Robert then mixed his vocals with the help of fellow Sheppartonian and friend Jaiman Long who he has worked with musically since 2016. “He has had more experience,” Robert said. “So I usually write a song then he would help me produce the music.”
Through network connections, Robert then sent the demo to a US-based sound engineer who he paid to polish off the beats and vocals after being connected through his friend and ARIA chart singer Enya Angel.
“Then the baby was born,” he said. Robert described the song as being “dark pop”. “People have said my song sounds like Billie Eilish and Troye Sivan who are two of my biggest inAEuences,” he said.
He explained much of the sound was based around pop music but there were far more electronic elements added.
The release comes after a successful early acting and dancing career in Shepparton where Robert has appeared in Notre Dame College, Initial Stages and Shepparton Theatre Arts Group productions. He most recently played Chistery in STAG’s Wicked. “I also just signed with modelling agency JustKHOO Agency,” he said.
“That’s based in Melbourne so I plan on staying in Shepparton next year but I’ll be in Melbourne most weekends with modelling.”
In the meantime, Robert said he was looking forward to the Amy Newton Dance Studios — where he teaches dance—performing its end-of-year concert in Shepparton today before looking to release new music early next year.
“I’ll release another song in January, so people can watch out on my Insta[email protected]baxtr for updates on my life and music,” he said.
Tell Me can be streamed on Spotify and Apple Music and can be purchased from the iTunes Store via the link song.link/i/1444969453
