Garden gig caters to crowd

FROM THE SCENIC SETTING TO THE LIST OF PERFORMERS, SECRET MUSIC EVENT IS PERFECTLY PLANNED

Handmade bunting and industrial style-string lights hung creatively above a crowd of music enthusiasts for the third instalment of the The Secret Garden Gigs.

Guests were welcomed by Duncan and Chris McPherson at Dubuque Bed and Breakfast in Numurkah, as they settled in with picnic baskets and eskies for what began as a warm Saturday night.

First to the stage was acoustic musician Knot, who brought an eclectic mix of songs and genres to a lively crowd.

As the sun set and a welcome cool change came through, Shepparton’s Briana Lee took to the stage sharing her stunning country voice with an attentive audience.

Event organiser Jamie Lea said the event was amazing.

‘‘Every single venue and every single gig is different giving you a different vibe,’’ Ms Lea said.

‘‘It was a great crowd and I loved how comfortable everything was and the variation in ages.

‘‘It doesn’t matter what point of your life you’re up to, you can still appreciate the music, especially in such an intimate environment.’’

Ms Lea prides herself on creating a program that fits the audience, often waiting until the last minute to organise artists.

‘‘I look at the audience variation of ages and find the different needs of the crowd,’’ she said.

‘‘I’m very particular and I try to make sure everything is perfect.

‘‘It’s a recipe; you’ve got to get it right.’’

Ms Lea said the desire of the public to have more music events across the region was becoming apparent, something she considered when planning venues for The Secret Garden Gigs.

‘‘We’re always on the look out to explore,’’ she said.

‘‘People love to go into someone’s backyard, see a new space and make new friends.’’

Ms Lea said they would be looking into bigger and more elaborate events in the near future, with an ultimate goal of placing the Goulburn Valley on the music touring map. ● Ms Lea encouraged anyone interested in performing, hosting a gig or simply looking for more information to get in touch via Facebook @the secret garden gigs or online at thesecretgardengigs.com
