WA bas­ket­ball champ dies in crash

PERTH: An ac­claimed WA bas­ket­baller has died fol­low­ing a freak crash on a busy West Aus­tralian high­way.

An­thony Ex­eter was driv­ing on Bus­sell Hwy near Lud­low south of Perth on Fri­day af­ter­noon when the canopy of a boat be­ing towed in front of him de­tached and smashed into the wind­screen of his car.

Po­lice say the fa­ther of two, 41, was flown to Royal Perth Hos­pi­tal where he died on Sun­day evening.

An in­ves­ti­ga­tion into the crash is on­go­ing, po­lice said.

Mr Ex­eter had a long and suc­cess­ful bas­ket­ball ca­reer, play­ing more than 300 games for the Rock­ing­ham Flames and Perth Red­backs in the State Bas­ket­ball League.

A mem­ber for the Flames from 1995, he was crowned the league’s most valu­able player in 2000.
