Titles are a massive hit
GREATER SHEPPARTON, CLUBS AND VOLUNTEERS EARN HIGH PRAISE FOR HOSTING CHAMPIONSHIPS
Organisers have deemed the Australian Country Cricket Championships in Greater Shepparton during the past fortnight were a ‘‘great success’’.
Cricket Australia’s strategic communications senior manager Kristene Reynolds highlighted the hard work of volunteers as a defining factor in how the tournament was run.
‘‘I think it was a great success,’’ Reynolds said.
‘‘We saw some great athletes from all across the country and some great competition across the week.
‘‘We had some great support from the local volunteers and cricket clubs, and without their support we couldn’t pull off an event like this.
‘‘We have a great appreciation of what they (local volunteers) were able to do, because without their help we would not be able to get it up and running.’’
As well as hosting the 12 teams of the respective men’s (five) and women’s (seven) competitions, Cricket Shepparton outfits also contributed to the hosting of an exhibition clash to start the festivities — a concept Cricket Australia was happy with upon its execution.
‘‘We’re always looking at ways to grow and strengthen the game,’’ Reynolds said.
‘‘That was an example of trying something new.’’
Overall the championships provided an opportunity for Greater Shepparton to showcase all it has to offer — on and off the field — to some of the best regional cricketers in the country.
And it seems it certainly made the most of that chance.
‘‘We had a great week,’’ Reynolds said.
‘‘The facilities were great and very accessible, there were great volunteers and we had a great response from the community, so we would absolutely consider it (coming back to Shepparton) in the future.’’
Well received: The Australian Country Cricket Championships in Greater Shepparton were a success, with players and fans alike enjoying the tournament.
