Family receives award in recognition of John

- By Liz Mellino

The late John Hammond was recognised recently for 22 years of service and support to Life Education.

The former Rotary Club of Shepparton South member dedicated countless hours to driving one of the 22 Life Education vans that visit schools right across Victoria.

Established in 1985, Life Education is a not-for-profit charity aimed at developing life-smart children.

The organisation is based around four focus settings that schools can access for their curriculum delivery: drugs and alcohol, cyber bullying, health and wellbeing, and respectful relationships.

At a recent Rotary meeting, Life Education chief executive officer Andrew Bennetto presented a plaque of recognition to Mr Hammond’s wife, Elaine, and their family members.

Mr Hammond’s memory will be permanently recognised by the organisation, after the naming of one of its new vans the ‘John Hammond Life Education Van’.

Mr Hammond’s work will be continued by Rotarians from the Shepparton South and Shepparton clubs who have volunteered to drive the van to schools within the surrounding area.
