Bears light up for Norwood

A pair of Shepparton products have enjoyed a roaring start to the SANFL season.

Former Bears premiershi­p teammates Nik Rokahr and Harry Boyd have helped Norwood into third position on the ladder after six rounds this campaign.

The Redlegs powered to a 30-point victory over Central District at the weekend which has improved their record to 4-2.

Rokahr collected 19 disposals, five tackles and one goal, while Boyd chipped in with 11 hit-outs and nine touches in the 13.6 (84) to 7.10 (52) win.

The duo has featured in all six matches this season, with Rokahr averaging 20 disposals a game.

Meanwhile in the VFLW, Shepparton’s Grace Egan was best afield in Carlton’s tough 14-point loss to the Western Bulldogs.

The talented on-baller racked up 29 disposals and six tackles in her second appearance for the Blues since the AFLW season finished.

Carlton has slumped to 10th on the ladder after 10 rounds in the season.

Mooroopna’s Tamara Smith and Benalla’s Becky Webster helped Geelong stroll to a 23-point win over Essendon.

Smith tallied 16 disposals and 10 tackles, while Webster gathered 23 touches.

Finley’s Eloise Ashley-Cooper (15 disposals) was the equal-second highest possession-getter for the Bombers.

Nathalia’s Reni Hicks and Seymour’s Sophie Locke battled hard for North Melbourne and Port

Melbourne respective­ly.

In VFL round four action, Echuca’s Darby Henderson enjoyed a day out for Williamsto­wn in its 17.13 (115) to 4.7 (31) victory over Frankston.

Henderson gathered 26 touches and booted a goal in a starring role for the Seagulls.

Benalla’s Nick Mellington had 19 touches in the win.

Geelong has catapulted inside the competitio­n’s topfour following its 45-point drubbing over Northern Bullants.

Shepparton’s Luke Smith kicked a goal and collected 16 disposals in the win.

Shepparton United’s Jye Chalcraft has continued his ripping form.

The former Demon collected 16 touches and has enjoyed a sublime start to his VFL career.

Strathmert­on’s Louis Pinnuck (22 disposals), Deniliquin’s Jack Henderson (21) and Seymour’s Bior Malual (22) all performed brilliantl­y in Werribee’s 37-point salute over Box Hill.

And Seymour’s Josh Schache booted three goals in Footscray’s narrow win over Carlton.

Congupna product and Blues co-captain Matt Shannon finished with 17 disposals in the 18-point loss.

Lastly, Kyabram’s Rhys Miller and Tatura’s Tom Miller helped Southport run out a strong winner over North Melbourne.

The Sharks enjoyed a 107-point demolition of the Kangaroos on their home deck.

Cohuna’s Flynn Appleby worked hard all day for the Roos.
