ART, ALE AND HOSPITAL FUNDS

- By John Lewis

Art lovers have the chance to beautify their walls, enjoy a beer and help GV Health at the same time with a special fundraiser this month.

Art, Ale and Nibbles at Shepparton Brewery on Tuesday, August 31 will feature the work of Kiallabased painter Nicky Kriss and is supported by Shepparton’s McKellars Picture Framing and Wall Art.

McKellars co-owner Adrienne West said the entire auction proceeds of a selected painting would go to the GV Health Foundation plus 20 per cent of the proceeds of all other art sold on the night.

Ms West said she and co-owner Stuart Gowty were keen to support local artists.

“We both love art, but there’s not much exhibition space for local artists. Now we can support the hospital as well,” she said.

Ms Kriss, who has been featured on the Nine Network reality TV series The Block, uses her hands to create large abstract washes of acrylic paint and ink.

The mother of two is self-taught and said she began painting and selling her art about nine years ago.

“I was looking for a painting for my home, but I couldn’t find anything I liked. So I did something myself and popped it on Facebook — and the reaction was amazing,” she said.

About 15 framed prints and one major painting by Ms Kriss will be available for purchase on Tuesday, August 31 at Shepparton Brewery, Edward St, Shepparton from 6 pm.
