A DAY FOR THE BIG FELLA

- By Tyler Maher

Shepparton Golf Club — and many clubs who are able to across Victoria and country — will turn yellow tomorrow to honour one of its favourite sons.

Jarrod Lyle would have been 40 on August 21 and this year’s Doing It For Jarrod Day will coincide with the late star’s birthday.

Shepparton Golf will help raise funds for Challenge Australia in Lyle’s name and in the lead-up to the commemorations PGA Australia has been sharing #BigFella40 stories and anecdotes from those closest to Lyle.

The series — which includes words from his family, his coach, comedian Andy Lee, sports broadcaster Mark Howard and many others — is confronting, emotional and insightful, but also gives a window into how those in the golfing community will be feeling this week.

With the third anniversary of his death earlier this month and many golfers, who would usually be able to celebrate Lyle’s life at Shepparton Golf Club this weekend stuck in lockdown, the #BigFella40 series has taken on an even more important meaning — that of connecting those who cannot be there in person to Doing It For Jarrod Day.

So even if it is in your backyard and not on a golf course, don some yellow tomorrow and share your Jarrod Lyle stories with us at sport@sheppnews.com.au or by using the #MMGSport tagline alongside #BigFella40 on social media.
