Extra test site to be added

MOOROOPNA FACILITY TO BE OPENED AS THOUSANDS FLOOD TESTING HUBS ACROSS SHEPPARTON

- By Darren Linton

An additional drive-through testing site is expected to be opened today at Mooroopna, with GV Health anticipating 10,000 to 11,000 people will need to get tested.

At the weekend health authorities moved to stagger the number of urgent tests by nominating specific sites to test students from year levels at Greater Shepparton Secondary College campuses and directing all community tests to other sites.

Thousands of students and their families are in 14-day quarantine.

In an online information session with the school community health authorities said only students who had been at a tier 1 site needed to be tested at this stage, not the entire family.

Three thousand were expected to have been tested by the time the testing centres closed yesterday, 2400 tests were processed on Friday and Saturday.

GV Health chief executive officer Matt Sharp acknowledged the strong community response had led to long wait times at a number of the testing sites with people reporting being in line for more than three hours.
