I AM CELEBRATING
International Apostrophe Day. The most abused punctuation was worshipped by nerds across the globe on August 16. It’s a delight to know I am not alone in my seemingly endless and futile battle against the misuse of the humble apostrophe. Lots of clever people posted lots of lists of atrocities against apostrophes. And there was plenty of geeky humour in articles that deliberately misplaced apostrophes for the amusement of fellow grammar tragics. As one in-joker said: “An apostrophe is the difference between a business that knows its s**t and a business that knows it’s s**t.”
