90 and still playing strong
VERNA ENJOYS HER REGULAR ROUND AND A BIG BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION WITH CAKE AT SHEPPARTON
Last Wednesday’s women’s golf competition at Shepparton Golf Club was like any other for the majority of the competitors. Except for one long-time player. Shepparton’s Verna Ritchie was celebrating her 90th birthday.
The golf enthusiast completed her weekly ritual of playing a full round of golf at Shepparton Golf Club.
Ritchie does not let age get in the way of her golf, playing and walking 18 holes every Wednesday.
It was only fitting that she capped her birthday doing one of the things she loves most.
Ritchie almost clinched the day’s three-person Ambrose competition.
Ritchie and her two teammates, Megan Carr and Gayle Steers, finished in second place with a score of 71.
Once the action on the fairways finished up, everyone stayed to sing happy birthday and eat a golf-inspired birthday cake.
News photographer Megan Fisher attended the birthday celebrations and captured all the action.
