Thanks for support
On Wednesday The News gave voice to community concerns about the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak in Shepparton.
Our front page can be a blunt instrument, but we did not seek to criticise or condemn, we only sought to appeal for help.
We knew, because we live here and have daily contact with so many people, that the challenge was building, and so too was the anxiety.
The response has been overwhelming.
With as many as 20,000 people in quarantine, we are now getting the support we need, whether it is soldiers to back up testing and do welfare checks, or logistics and manpower to ensure vital services keep delivering for those in need.
Volunteer group GV Cares has been flooded with donations which will help them deliver basic necessities to more people.
The Victorian Government responded quickly and it was heartening to see our appeal for help being embraced across Australia.
Many expat Sheppartonians shared social media posts or sent words of encouragement.
It is a fact of life that you need the basics like food and medicine, but when the chips are down you also need to know you are supported, that people care.
Thank you to everyone. Hope springs eternal.
