Scooting about

-

Oddie is proud of the way we’ve taken on this coronavirus outbreak, and if you are looking for inspiration, what about our Mayor Kim O’Keeffe?

There’s a lot to do, and Cr O’Keeffe is doing it all using a scooter to get around as she recovers from a badly broken ankle that required surgery.

What a trooper.

Talking of transport

Oddie got a note from an resident out of quarantine pointing out the appearance of new electric vehicle parking spaces in Fraser St in Shepparton.

The reader was bemoaning the loss of car parks for ordinary folk who don’t have an electric vehicle.

Oddie still drives a polluting gas guzzler but would love to make the change; let’s hope Australia can catch up to the rest

of the world and make EVs not only popular but affordable.

Citizens of the Year

Each year Greater Shepparton City Council announces Citizens of the Year for each community and then one overall winner who is crowned the Greater Shepparton Citizen of the Year.

Oddie has been closely monitoring the COVID crisis (who hasn’t?) and the remarkable response, and has an idea: for 2021 let’s award the Citizen of the Year to the whole community, and put a plaque or an artwork in the new Maude St Mall as a permanent reminder to residents and visitors of what community means.

While we’re at it, lets award Volunteer of the Year to the whole community as well. There are so many great people doing their utmost to help others that it would be impossible to choose just one.
