Bake sale postponed

- By Lachlan Durling

A bake sale to support Goulburn Valley Health’s prostate cancer nurses has been postponed amid the Shepparton COVID-19 outbreak.

Originally slated for Saturday, August 28, the bake sale has been postponed to a later date to ensure the Shepparton community is safe.

“We’re waiting until we’re out of lockdown, we want to make sure the community is safe,” organiser Isabella Mangiameli said.

“I want to thank everyone for their support — I hoped to get 100 orders and we’re past that, so it’s an awesome thing.”

Fifty per cent of the sale’s proceeds will help fund the roles of GV Health prostate cancer nurses Sonia Strachan and Nicole Lewis.

“We rely on the community for funding, and that money helps local blokes going through prostate cancer treatment,” Ms Strachan, an oncology unit prostate cancer specialist nurse, said.

“We’re so thankful for contributions, and it’s great to have the support of Isabella and her family through this bake sale.

“It means locals can access treatment closer to home, which is a fantastic thing for our community.”
