David is living the dream

Doctors told David Williams he was ‘‘riddled with arthritis’’ and that he would never be able to work again.

But Mr Williams was determined to bring to life his childhood dream and 42 years later he is still carrying out that dream.

Mr Williams is the owner and trainer of the Royal Alcheringa and Spanish Dancing Horses.

‘‘I never thought I would be doing this, but it sure was a dream I had,’’ Mr Williams said.

Mr Williams’ talented touch with horses comes as no surprise when you discover his background.

He is the nephew of RM Williams, known for his famous country clothing range.

‘‘I suppose I have horses in my blood. I have spent nearly all my life around horses and will spend the rest of my life around them,’’ he said.

Mr Williams has been on the road with the famous horse show for about 22 years and is the proud owner/trainer of Schwandor the Second. Schwandor jumped over a moving, hay loaded utility, without a rider, setting the free-jumping world record.

The Royal Alcharinga and Spanish Dancing Horses are performing at Shepparton Showgrounds tonight through to Sunday.
