Two soldiers killed in crash
TOWNSVILLE: Australia’s chief of army has paid tribute to two soldiers who were killed when their truck crashed on a remote road in north Queensland.
The 40-year-old and 28-year-old from Brisbane-based 7th Brigade died when their truck rolled on Dotswood Rd, near a military training base not far from Charters Towers, south-west of Townsville on Monday.
Defence rescue and medical teams attended, however the two were later confirmed dead at the scene.
Chief of Army Lieutenant General Rick Burr yesterday offered condolences and support to the soldiers’ families.
‘‘Our highest priority is caring for the families, friends and loved ones of our soldiers and we ask that you respect their privacy during this difficult time,’’ he said.
‘‘It is with this in mind that we will not be releasing the names of our soldiers at this time.’’
