SWANS LOVE TO HAVE A CHEER WITH DUNCAN

DUNCAN DIVES IN FOR FOURTH SEASON AS AVENEL COACH AS CLUB PLANS TO RESURRECT JUNIOR TEAMS

- By AYDIN PAYNE

Although the Kyabram District League season is still on hold, Kasey Duncan is already planning ahead for next year.

The Avenel playing coach has recommitted for next season as he looks to deliver the Swans that elusive premiership.

The Swans looked well placed to break their flag drought this year after they ended the home-andaway season in second spot.

Duncan, the 2016 McNamara medallist, will extend his tenure into a fourth season when next year’s campaign rolls around.

The talented forward said where the club was positioned and how the current season had played out made it a straightforward decision to go around again.

“With the season going the way it has it was a pretty easy decision to re-sign and start planning for next year,” Duncan said.

“It’s a pretty exciting time at the club with the group we have in the seniors and reserves.

“Now heading into my fourth year I’m pretty keen to get some reward and deliver the club some success.”

Duncan said he expected a full buy-in from this year’s crop of players to recommit for next season.

“Sitting where we are on the ladder it left us a bit empty as a group,” he said.

“We should have the same group stick around. I’m pretty confident that we will be able to retain everyone.

“Joe Pollock is going around again as ressies coach, which is great as well.”

Along with retaining the majority of senior players, Duncan said the club had a few other goals in mind for next year.

The Swans are searching for a non-playing assistant coach and a paid trainer, while they also have hopes to field junior sides.

“We would love to get an under18s up and running, as well as under-12s,” Duncan said.

“Juniors are the future of the club and we would love to have those sides in next year.

“We are also on the hunt for a non-playing assistant coach and a paid trainer and we’ll start advertising those roles soon.”
