MANAGING TO BRIGHTEN STAFF’S DAY

- By Georgia Rossiter

Kmart Shepparton’s store manager has been brightening up the workplace with daily dress-ups.

With many staff in isolation, and a glum feeling in the empty store, Dean Iellamo’s costumes have put a smile on his coworkers’ faces.

“Seeing the whole of the community of Shepparton being hit so hard with COVID, and every day we’ll see the team and they just looked a bit scared and upset,” he said.

“So, what I was doing was dressing up as something different each day to make them laugh, and just brighten up their day.”

So far, Mr Iellamo has come to work as Harry Potter, Where’s Wally, Superman, the Flash and Spider-Man.

“They tried to get me in a Frozen costume, but it wouldn’t fit,” he said with a laugh.

The Kmart team has been loving the costumes, taking photos each day, and getting involved in games before the day begins.

“Mostly they’ve just been laughing at me,” Mr Iellamo said.

“Some of the team members have even said thanks for doing

something different, but mainly they just laugh at me.”

Mr Iellamo said he was happy to be able to lift the spirits of his staff, even if it was at his own expense.

“It’s a bit hard for them to get pumped about work, because there’s just no timeframe or anything on when everything will go back to normal,” he said.

“That’s why I thought I’d just do something different.”
