TOWNERS TO PLAY TWO UP

VIOLET TOWN EAGERLY LOOKS TO FUTURE AFTER REAPPOINTING ELLIS AND WILD TO LEAD NETBALL TEAMS

- By Liam Nash

After enjoying a steady campaign in Violet Town colours Abbie Ellis and Kolby Wild have signed on to lead the club’s A and B-grade netball sides again next year.

It is a partnership proving fruitful for the Towners; the pair steering the club’s A-grade outfit to its most successful finish in four years, with this season’s equal eighth placing its best since 2017.

And the coaches did so from either end of the court.

Ellis and Wild starred at opposite thirds, with the former’s capabilities on the offensive supplemented by Wild’s wily defending.

Both boast Goulburn Valley League experience having joined at the start of the year from Shepparton

Swans and stamped their mark immediately by helping orchestrate a 61-21 thrashing of Ardmona in the Kyabram District League opener.

The side went on to finish with a 5-6-2 record, a stark improvement from 2019’s four wins and 12 losses.

Violet Town Football Netball Club released a statement on Facebook confirming the reappointment, commending the duo for the groundwork laid during its first season at the helm.

“The club is thrilled to announce that Abbie Ellis and Kolby Wild have recommitted for 2022,” the post read.

“Abbie and Kolby added a lot to our A-grade side this season in key positions at either end of the court, their best showed that they could compete with anyone, pushing the two top teams all the way and the girls are super excited to build on the base they have created this season.

“Not only are they excellent assets on the court they also showed their worth off the court by putting their hands up to organise the social functions.

“The club is excited to see what they can bring for the 2022 season.”
