Holding out hope for the kids

Though the Goulburn Valley’s winter sporting scene appears to be barren of finals in any format, one organisation hangs on to the prospect of hosting a deciding weekend of action to round out the season.

Shepparton Junior Soccer Association recently expressed its intentions of going full steam ahead with finals, circling October 16-17 as the intended weekend.

A statement released by the association on Facebook pointed out the state’s governing body is, COVID-19 permitting, supporting regional leagues attempting to tie off their competitions.

“SJSA will be going ahead with finals for all tabled competitions as soon as the easing of regional restrictions allow us to do so,” the post read.

“Football Victoria are encouraging regional competitions to resume as soon as the Victorian Government gives the green light to do so.

“We are excited to give our under-12s, under-15s, open girls and senior boys the opportunity to participate in finals and we are also hoping to resume our Mini Roos if possible.”

Semi-finals would be held on October 16 with the premiership games unfolding the following day.

However, the date of Greater Shepparton’s release from lockdown will likely dictate the probability of finals going ahead.

The association’s statement indicated the fixture would be released after the organisation gets confirmation of this.
