DISTRICT BROWNLOW BATTLE
THERE’S A BEVY OF MIDFIELD MAESTROS IN THE RUNNING TO BE NAMED LEAGUE BEST AND FAIREST ON SUNDAY NIGHT
OLLIE WINES
After starring during Port’s sixgame winning streak to end the season, Wines has moved into outright favouritism for this year’s Brownlow. He achieved career highs in disposals (32.4) and inside 50s (5.2), and is sure to rack up a good number of three-vote games. Apart from veteran midfielder Travis Boak, not too many of the 26-yearold’s Power teammates will be consistently stealing votes off him – something his rivals from the Demons and the Bulldogs will have to contend with. $3.25
CLAYTON OLIVER
The Melbourne hard nut has never had trouble getting his hands on the ball, but this season he took his game to a new level by adding attacking flair to his relentless defensive side. Just like the Demons, Oliver started the season with a bang, and he looms as the likely Brownlow leader at the midpoint of the season. The 24-year-old averaged 31.5 disposals, 7.5 clearances and 5.3 tackles – they’re the sort of numbers that are certain to catch an umpire’s eye. His biggest concern may be that teammates Christian Petracca and Max Gawn steal votes off him. $3.50
