Case in Cobram revealed

THREE TIER 2 EXPOSURE SITES LISTED AS HEALTH AUTHORITIES PROBE WHETHER CASE LINKED TO BALLARAT

The wider Goulburn Valley region has had its first new active COVID-19 case in more than a week after a positive case was recorded in Cobram yesterday morning.

NCN Health Cobram announced the positive case, with three Tier 2 exposure sites listed.

Two sites were exposure sites on September 16: Cobram Post Office from 12.15 pm to 12.45 pm and Woolworths Cobram from 12.20 pm to 1.30 pm, and Cobram Barooga Sports Club’s golf pro shop from 11.20 am to 11.50 am.

Victorian coronavirus response commander Jereon Weimar said authorities believed the case was linked to Ballarat, but were still investigating.

It was one of 14 cases across regional Victoria yesterday, with 567 cases across the entire state.

Five COVID-19 cases were recorded in Ballarat and three in Mitchell Shire, the latter of which woke up to lockdown alongside the Surf Coast and Geelong yesterday.

One other case was recorded just outside of Bendigo, which has nearly a dozen exposure sites and hit capacity at testing sites before lunchtime.

Meanwhile, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews flagged the state’s roadmap, released on Sunday, could change at the state watched NSW forge a path by being the first Australian state to open up.

He defended the modelling which had been behind the cautious reopening plan, and said if NSW didn’t see its health system overwhelmed there was a chance for Victoria to adjust its roadmap.

‘‘Hopefully we can say ‘based on that, we can bring things forward’,’’ Mr Andrews said.

‘‘Everything is reviewed every day.

‘‘If it does change, it won’t be the result of someone campaigning, it’ll be about the data. If NSW was terrific after three weeks, and we caught up to where they are, the CHF would come to me and say ‘we can change this’.’’

Moderna vaccines will also be available from pharmacies from later this week for people aged 12-59.

Victoria Pharmacy Guild president Anthony Tassone said the arrival this week of the Moderna vaccine was ‘‘another tool in the kitbag’’ to help fight COVID-19.

He said 1800 pharmacies would be offering it this week and another 1800 next week, with 300,000 Moderna doses to be offered in coming weeks.

‘‘Sometimes it feels like we’re on a plane which is spiralling, when I look under my chair for the life jacket I don’t care if it’s the red one or the blue one . . . the best vaccine you can get is the one you can get today,’’ he said.
